How long have you worked in Edwards & Co?
I joined the Firm in 2003 having qualified in 1998. I was made Partner in the Firm in 2009.

Do you specialise in any particular area?
My main areas of practice are in professional conduct, crime and judicial review. I have acted for the Police Federation for Northern Ireland since 2003 representing police officers throughout their disciplinary proceedings and related issues. I have a wide criminal practice representing clients at PACE interviews as well as in Magistrates Court and Crown Court proceedings. I have represented a number of professionals in complex criminal investigations. As well as acting for Defendants I have also experience of prosecuting on behalf of regulatory authorities.

What do you like about what you do?
Without a doubt the best part of my job is getting a result for my client. When clients come to see me they are generally facing the potential loss of their career or of their liberty and it can be a very stressful time for them and their families. I am able to advise and represent them in the hope of achieving the best possible outcome and that is where I derive the greatest satisfaction.

What’s the best case you’ve ever worked on?
I find myself very fortunate because of the line of work I am involved in. The work is diverse and interesting and regularly raises novel issues. I am not sure I am able to name one specific case above all others. My best memories are of those cases where my client gets a result that is wholly proper and correct but is against the odds. Many of these cases arise following appeals or judicial review challenges and the proceedings are protracted. It is great to finally get justice despite the setbacks and hurdles which had to be overcome.
