How long have you worked in Edwards & Co?

I graduated from Trinity College Dublin with a Law degree in 2016. After graduating, I worked as a Legal Analyst in a global investment bank specialising in Mergers & Acquisitions and Equity Capital Markets.
I then went on to work in London as a Senior Paralegal in the Tier One ranked Private Equity department of a Magic Circle law firm where I assisted with complex, cross-border corporate transactions.
I moved home to Belfast to complete my studies at the Institute Professional Legal Studies and qualified as a solicitor with Distinction in September 2020. During my time at the IPLS, I won the national round of the Brown Mosten International Client Consultation Competition and I was also a finalist for the Owen Catchpole Advocacy Prize.
I joined Edwards & Co in February 2022. Before joining the team I worked in the Corporate, Commercial & Charity department of another busy Belfast firm.

Do you work in any particular area?

I have had a keen interest in corporate law since my undergraduate studies, and from a young age I have volunteered with various organisations with the third sector in Northern Ireland. I have recently been appointed as a charity trustee and director of HarmonI, which I believe shows my commitment to the sector.
Working in the fields of Corporate, Social Enterprise and Charity law has been the perfect fusion of both my professional and vocational interests.
I regularly advise on a wide range of matters including:
  • Mergers, acquisitions and disposals of businesses and charities
  • Partnership and shareholder disputes
  • Shareholders’ agreements
  • Corporate structure, company formation and company secretarial duties
  • Commercial contracts
  • Delivering board training on corporate governance
  • Liaising with the Charity Commission Northern Ireland

What do you like about what you do?

I enjoy the fast paced environment and diversity of corporate transactions and that no one day is the same.
I am genuinely passionate about the charity and not for profit sector, and feel inspired by my clients. I particularly enjoy delivering board training to both new to post and experienced trustees.
I love meeting new people, networking and building professional relationships with clients and other professionals in my field.

What’s the best case you’ve ever worked on?

I feel that all cases have interesting aspects, challenges and opportunities. However, a case that I particularly enjoyed was advising a tech start-up right from the seed investment stage right through all of the various rounds of funding.
I was on hand to support the client with all of their legal challenges including putting in place a shareholders’ agreement, contract negotiation for projects and advising on an employee share scheme.
I really enjoyed being part of my client’s journey and watching their business grow from strength to strength.
