How long have you worked in Edwards & Co?
I joined the firm in 2008 and have worked in the Employment department throughout those years.

Do you specialise in any particular area?
I specialise in employment Law and have been recommended as a “Leader in the Employment field” in Chambers UK 2016. I remain the employment department’s team leader servicing clients in the public, private and third sector. I have particular expertise in advising on a range of contentious and non contentious issues.

A lot of my time is spent advising members of a large union as well as Charities and Boards of Trustees.

I frequently advise on the following:

• Drafting and negotiation of terms and conditions of employment, service agreements and policies and procedures
• Providing advice on recruitment
• Advising on performance/capability issues
• Dealing with grievances
• Advising on TUPE
• Dealing with disciplinary matters/dismissal
• Restructuring and redundancy
• Defending all types of tribunal claims including unfair dismissal, all types of discrimination claims, wrongful dismissal and breach of contract

I am a regular tutor at Queens University Belfast Institute of Professional legal studies and a member of the Employment Lawyers Group.

What do you like about what you do?
The advantages of working in a practice such as Edwards and company is that we have a wide range of clients and therefore can assist with various employment aspects from tribunal claims, to attending hearings and meetings with clients and helping to draft documents and policies. I like to be able to offer a friendly approachable service.

What’s the best case you’ve ever worked on?
Acting on behalf of approximately 180 part time workers in an employment case based on Equal Pay and Working Time directives. Achieving settlement to our clients’ advantage in this large class action gave me a great sense of achievement.
