Charity of the year 2016 – The tough decision
At Edwards and Co members of our staff are required to make tough decisions every day but perhaps the hardest decision we collectively make is the appointment of our Charity of the year. Our decision to appoint a charity of the year recognises that a large number of charitable organisations rely heavily upon donations from the business sector. We also appreciate the increasing difficulties which many Charities face in raising much needed funds. It is regrettable that due to the enormous number of requests we receive for financial support that we cannot provide assistance in all cases. Therefore choosing one to which we can fully commit is the best way forward.
This year we had applications from 8 extremely worthy charities and trying to select one was so difficult. In the end we have decided to continue for a second year our support for Bowel Cancer UK.
Last year we raised over £22,000 for this worthy cause. More importantly we have tried to assist in getting the message out that this cancer which claims the lives of over 1 person per day in NI has a survival rate of more than 93% over five years if diagnosed at the early stage. This year we are determined to do our best with fund raising, raise awareness and save lives in Northern Ireland.
