Paralegal / Legal Exec

Market rate, commensurate with experience

The Wills and Probate Paralegal provides essential support to the Wills and Probate department by assisting in managing and executing tasks related to wills, trusts, estates, and probate matters.

Reporting to: Wills & probate lead solicitor

Education and experience

  • A degree in law or related field OR
  • Relevant experience accepted in place of a degree


  • 16-20 hrs
  • 20 days plus stat, rising to 25 days, annual leave allowance

Key Responsibilities

Client interaction

  • Take initial queries in relation to probate, wills and EPOAs
  • Taking client phone calls and building a rapport with clients
  • Ensure excellent client service and maintain client confidentiality

Case Management

  • Opening files and providing retainer letters from precedents
  • Drafting simple wills and EPOAs from precedents
  • Drafting bills and cash statements
  • Online probate application process
  • Follow-up information gathering, including phone calls to and from financial organisations/ court offices/ HMRC/ clients/ other organisations involved.
  • Work closely with the wider team to ensure efficient workflow.

Admin support

  • Arranging client appointments, setting up medical appointments if assessments needed
  • Accessing documents from strongroom, maintaining strongroom records
  • Filing and organising paperwork

Essential Skills

  • Effective communicator with a high standard of Client service approach
  • Conscientious, taking responsibility for own work
  • Well-organised and methodical with a high attention to detail
  • An aptitude for managing multiple priorities, producing documents and Client communications to a high standard
  • Experience working with Microsoft Office
  • Positive can-do attitude
