The European Court of Justice has recently ruled that employers can ban workers from wearing religious clothing such as headscarves and crucifixes.

Security firm G4S did not breach EU anti-discrimination laws when it fired a Belgian Muslim receptionist who wanted to cover her head, it was argued, and company dress codes that ban religious clothing are legal in the EU as long as they are equally applied across all faiths and political views. It has been suggested that this could have a wider effect on similar bans in the UK.
